Diagnostic Equipment

Did you know the team of ASE-Certified auto mechanics at Alpha Automotive in McDonough uses computer diagnostic equipment and software tools to test and help determine the correct repair path when providing you with your auto repair? And contrary to the urban myth, computer diagnostic testing doesn’t point to an easy “instant plug ‘n play a part” fix, nor is it a simple matter of just turning the light off for you. Like going to see you personal doctor, diagnostics is more complex.

Alpha Automotive use the most modern computer diagnostic testing to figure out what’s happening under the hood of your car. Our auto mechanics get diagnostic trouble codes when they run tests, which point them to the vehicle systems that have problems indicated. But it also takes a visual inspection, thorough understanding of how those systems operate and interact with others, and the ability to use authentic wiring diagrams to ascertain that electrical wiring and modules are communicating properly. “There’s no other way than doing the right thing the right way at the right time,” explains shop owner Kevin Paul.

Diagnostic expertise is not only a difficult specialty to learn, keep pace with ever advancing vehicle technology — much of it software — it requires continual training to be truly diagnostic-ready. Regardless of the diagnostic trouble code, the actual root cause can be varied. It might be a vehicle fluid leaking onto an electronic module, a fault or multiple faults in an electric circuit, a damaged electronic control module, or some other cause. Once identified and remedied, modern vehicles often require a software reprogramming, recalibration or re-initialization procedure be performed, which also requires the diagnostic tool and a knowledgeable auto mechanic to perform.

“We make that commitment at Alpha Automotive on behalf of our customers,” says shop owner Kevin Paul. “That’s why we’re the shop that when nobody else — dealer or independent shop — can fix a car, we can. We let the others chase ghosts.” Check out for yourself what our customers have shared about our diagnostic prowess in their five-star online reviews:

“These guys are really amazing. If I had gone to most other places, including where I used to take my truck, I likely would have been advised that it would take extensive diagnostics, which would have required more time and money. Instead, the technician assessed the problem, asked me a couple questions and determined the most likely solution to try first, all at no charge. If the problem pops up again, I will return and let them delve into it further.” -- Robert B.

“Although I did not get service from them, they were open on a holiday, they ran a diagnostic test on my car and found out it was an issue I just recently had fixed by another mechanic. They said they would love my business, but I should go to the previous shop and ask them to fix it. 5 stars for integrity and I will be taking my car to their facility in the future.” -- Maria A.
